How I LOVE Toronado… for bringing me Lost Abbey!

August 12, 2008

Say what you will about the, ahem, ‘customer service’ at Toronado (and I say plenty myself) but there’s no denying that they come back with the best beers from the best breweries week after week.  You’d think maybe I’d had enough of Lost Abbey after visiting the brewery and buying bottles to take home and age, but nope!  Come on now, I’m not sure there’s such a thing as too much Lost Abbey.  And so, now you know where you can find me tomorrow…

Toronado (on Haight between Fillmore and Steiner)

6:00pm onwards

Drinking the following beers on draft:

  • Avant Garde: Biere de Garde, a great example hard to find style but I like other styles from LA better
  • Cable Car: An oak aged, sour American Wild Ale.  I haven’t had it yet, but this will probably be the first thing I order considering the good things I’ve heard and how much I love this style
  • Judgment Day: Downright delicious Belgian Strong Dark Ale barrel aged with raisins.  If you haven’t had it, make sure you do before you go, just don’t drink it first or almost nothing else will seem to stack up!
  • Lost & Found Abbey Ale: Another beautiful beer, this one a Belgian Dubbel.  Get it right before the Judgment Day.  You’ll think this is as good as it gets, until you taste that one.
  • Witches’ Wit: Lost Abbey obviously shines when making styles few other American brewers even attempt, but this is another way they show off how far they are ahead of the crowd.  One of the best witbiers I’ve tasted, and head and shoulders above the mass of others that are flooding the market now.
  • Wipeout IPA: Haven’t had it, but may have to give it a try — if I’m not already full!
  • 2nd Anniversary Imperial IPA: Ditto!

The other good news is that there will also be limited release bottles available for purchase to go:

  • Cable Car: American Wild Ale 2008 and 2007
  • Ne Goeien: Saison brewed with Hildegard van Ostaden from Urthel Brewery (Belgium)
  • Avante Garde: Biere De Garde
  • Red Barn: Saison
  • Judgement Day: Belgian Strong Dark
  • Isabella Proximus: Something of the American wild ale sort, brewed with a cast of superstars (Adam Avery from Avery Brewing Company, Sam Calagione from Dogfish Head Brewing Company, Vinnie Cilurzo from Russian River Brewing Company, and Rob Tod from Allagash Brewing Company)
  • Cuvee de Tomme: Belgian Strong Dark Ale barrel aged with cherries
  • Red Poppy Ale: A Flanders Red Ale sour style beer
  • Gift of the Magi: A strong Biere De Garde
  • Devotion: Belgian Golden Ale
  • Lost & Found: Belgian Dubbel
